Information

Fluoride-free toothpaste – a safe choice for children’s teeth?

There can be several reasons why it is a good idea to choose a fluoride-free toothpaste for children aged 2-6:

  • Firstly, a balanced diet can already provide sufficient amounts of fluoride, which can reduce the necessity for additional fluoride uptake via toothpaste.
  • Secondly, it can help to reassure parents who are concerned about fluoride uptake, whether for health reasons or personal preferences.

Nonetheless, fluoride-free toothpaste such as our nenedent toothpaste without fluoride can still offer effective protection against tooth decay thanks to active ingredients like xylitol, which inhibits the growth of caries bacteria. This toothpaste is also free of essential oils, which makes it a suitable choice for families who prefer alternative approaches to healthcare

FAQs

From what age can I use nenedent children’s toothpaste without fluoride for my child?

You can start using nenedent fluoride-free toothpaste as soon as your child’s first tooth pushes through. We recommend using a pea-sized amount of toothpaste 2x per day. It is important to supervise your child during toothbrushing to prevent excessive swallowing of toothpaste.

How much toothpaste should I put on the toothbrush?

A pea-sized amount of our toothpaste is enough to effectively clean and protect your child’s teeth.

How often should teeth be brushed?

Children should brush their teeth twice a day, preferably after breakfast and before bed in order to prevent tooth decay and plaque.

Is the toothpaste also suitable for children who have not yet learned how to spit?

Our toothpaste is designed to be safe for your child even if some is accidentally swallowed. Nonetheless, we recommend that you practise spitting with your child as early as possible.

Can the toothpaste prevent plaque in children who otherwise have plaque despite brushing their teeth regularly?

Our toothpaste has been specially developed to effectively deal with plaque and prevent tooth decay provided it is used regularly.

Why is it so important for children to brush their teeth properly?

Correct toothbrushing in children prevents tooth decay and plaque. Brush twice a day, use children’s toothpaste with xylitol, and use the correct method - chewing surfaces first, then the outer surfaces, then the inner surfaces last. Use playful techniques to motivate your child, and start taking him or her to the dentist from an early age.

Why do some children have tooth decay despite brushing their teeth?

Tooth decay in children despite toothbrushing can be the result of incorrect brushing technique, not brushing for long enough, a diet high in sugar, or not visiting the dentist regularly. Milk teeth are particularly susceptible to tooth decay despite brushing. Make sure that your child has a thorough brushing routine, use nenedent toothpaste with xylitol, and encourage healthy eating habits.
